2011 Student Fashion Photography Competition

Miami International Fashion Week® will host the 2nd annual Student Fashion Photography Competition as organizers search for the best new fashion photography student in the world.

Photography students are requested to submit your entries for the 13th annual MIFW. The winning student will be honored at the opening press conference on March 17, 2011 as the "International Student Fashion Photographer of the Year"and the winning photos will be exhibited in the "New Stars in Fashion Installation" at the event. The judge's decision is final.

Competition Requirements:

For students to be eligible for participation in the fashion photography competition, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Student must be currently enrolled in any type of photography program at an accredited educational institution anywhere in the world.

Rules for Submission:

  1. Theme: International Style. Use your own creative juices to create a fashion shoot celebrating the international world of "style."

  2. Submit six (6) fashion photos in 72 DPI no larger than 9" x 12" in RGB files

  3. A biography in English

  4. Copy of the student's ID or letter from the student's instructor/department director confirming they are currently enrolled in a photography program.

  5. Submissions should be sent by email to photography@miamifashionweek.com

  6. Entries that do not meet the above will be disqualified so please follow the rules. Questions are always welcome.

Deadline for submissions is January 15, 2011. Winner will be posted on the web site February 1, 2011. The photographs must then be submitted in 300 DPI print quality to be included in the installation.

The Prizes!

  • The student's, name, school and winning photographs will be included in the Winners Circle on the official MIFW web site

  • A cash prize from the Miami Fashion Week Foundation

  • Photographs will be printed, mounted and exhibited in the New Stars in Fashion Installation at MIFW. All costs will be paid by MIFW.

  • Participate in a fashion shoot along side Gio Alma, famed fashion photographer. Winner will have the opportunity to work side by side, directly with Gio. Photo shoot will take place in Miami. Winner is responsible for all travel costs. Alternatively, winner may choose to have 2 hours of on-line mentoring with Gio on your favorite photography topic in lieu of traveling to Miami for the shoot.

All students submitting photos will be invited to attend the fashion styling, trends & retail and business seminars during the event. Students are responsible for all travel costs incurred to attend MIFW.
