2011 Graphic Artist Poster Competition

Miami International Fashion Week™ will host the 3rd annual Student Graphic Artist Competition as organizers search for the top graphic artist students worldwide to join in our international poster competition.

Graphic artist students are requested to submit a poster design for the 13th annual Miami International Fashion Week™. The theme: International Fashion in Miami. Use your own creative juices to develop a poster celebrating Miami as the center of the fashion world.

The winning poster will be exhibited in the "New Stars in Fashion Installation" at the event. The poster design will also be produced and sold at MIFW with the proceeds benefitting the Miami Fashion Week Foundation. All costs of producing copies of the winning poster design will be paid by MIFW. The winning student will be honored at the opening press conference on March 3, 2011 as the "International Student Graphic Artist of the Year." The judge’s decision is final.

Competition Requirements:

For graphic artist students to be eligible for participation in the poster competition, the following requirements must be met:

  • Student must be currently enrolled in a graphic arts/design program anywhere in the world.

Rules for Submissions:

If you meet the requirements, students are requested to provide the following:

  1. A poster design following the theme: International Fashion in Miami submitted in JPEG (72 DPI), TIF or PDF format, 18" X 24", horizontal or vertical

  2. One poster submission per student

  3. A biography in English

  4. A copy of your student ID or letter from your instructor/department director confirming your enrollment in the school

  5. If any type of fashion show photos are being used as part of the overall design, they must be from a past season of MIFW. Please request access if desired.

  6. Posters must include the the MIFW logo, 2011 dates and location of the event.

  8. Entries that do not meet these requirements will be disqualified so please follow the rules. Questions are always welcome.

Deadline for submissions is January 15, 2011. Winner will be posted on the web site February 1, 2011. The winner must submitt the final art work in 300 DPI print quality PDF or TIF formats by February 10, 2011.

The Prizes!

  • The students name, school and the winning poster will be included in the Winners Circle on the official MIFW web site

  • A cash prize presented by the Miami Fashion Week Foundation

  • Poster will be exhibited at MIFW 2011 in the New Stars in Fashion Installation

  • A portfolio review and 1 hour career consulation with Merri Grace McLeroy, award winning art director and graphic designer. Review and consultation can be in person in Miami or via the Internet. About the Judge: Merri Grace McLeroy. With more than 25 years in advertising and publishing, as an Addy Award-winning art director, creative director, graphic designer, editor and writer, Merri Grace McLeroy provides marketing consulting and creative services through her company SIM Communications. She is also the Design Editor of Gulfstream Media Group, publishers of 10 South Florida lifestyle and design magazines, a part-time professor in the Fashion Department of The Miami International University of Art & Design, author of Fashion Magazine (2006) Pearson Education. She also provides marketing and design support to numerous charitable organizations and is a member of Fashion Group International, The Text and Academic Authors Association and Women in Communications.
