2010 Student Fashion Photography Competition

Miami International Fashion Week™ will host the 1st annual Student Fashion Photography Competition as organizers search the world for the best new fashion photography student.

The theme: International Fashion in Miami. Use your own creative juices to create a fashion shoot celebrating Miami as the center of the fashion world.

The winning student photographer will be introduced at the opening press conference on March 18, 2010 and honored at the closing Miami Moda & Music Awards on March 21, 2010 at Midtown in Miami’s trendy Wynwood Art District.  The judge's decision is final.

The winning student also will receive the following:

  1. A photo exhibition of your work at Miami International Fashion Week™ 2010

  2. The photos, name of the school and the photography student’s headshot will be included in the Hall of Fame on the official MIFW web site

  3. A cash prize presented by the Miami Fashion Week Foundation Scholarship Fund 

  4. A professional fashion photography shoot complete with a model, (students choice of male or female,) a professional hair and make up artist, a professional wardrobe stylist and access to a fully equipped photography studio, for an 8 hour period mentored and guided by Jason Mahshie.

 

About the Judge:  Professional fashion photographer, Jason Mahshie has lived and worked in Europe and the US, with a concentration on editorial work in Paris and Milan. He has photographed everyone from top fashion models to Olympic athletes and celebrities. His work has appeared in GQ, Men's Health, Esquire, Elle, NY Times Magazine, DNR, Sports Illustrated, Ocean Drive, Marie Claire, and Votre Beauté, among others. His advertising clients include Perry Ellis, Nike, Original Penguin, Jantzen, Avon, Hickey-Freeman, Air Canada, Coty Cosmetics, Oldsmobile, Lord & Taylor, Woolrich, as well as numerous department stores. Jason is also a self-published author of a 1999 book of collected works.

Jason received his BFA in Photography from NYU, Tisch School of the Arts and is the recipient of a Lightwork Grant. He has guest lectured at many fine universities, such at Rochester Institute Of Technology’s advertising department. www.mahshiephoto.com

For photography students to be eligible for participation in the fashion photography competition, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Student must be currently enrolled in any type of photography program at an accredited educational institution anywhere in the world.

  2. Submit six (6) fashion photos in 72 dpi no larger than a 9”x12”, RGB files

  3. If you meet the requirements, students are requested to submit your photos, a copy of your student ID and a biography in English by email to photography@miamifashionweek.com   

  4. NEW Deadline for submissions is February 15, 2010. Winner will be posted on the web site February 25, 2010.

All costs of displaying the photos of the winning student will be paid by MIFW. Students are responsible for all travel costs incurred to attend MIFW. All students submitting photos will be invited to attend the opening night shows and the trends, retail and business seminars during the event.
