History: The idea of an international Women's Day first arose at the turn of the century, when in 1909, the first National Women's Day was observed in the United States. By 1910, 100 women from 17 countries, who had gathered in Copenhagen, unanimously approved a proposal to establish an annual Women's Day to honor the women's rights movement and to support universal suffrage for women. Since its early conception, International Women's Day has assumed a global dimension for women in developed and developing countries. In 1975, the United Nations began sponsoring International Women's Day. Its four Women's Conferences have strengthened the movement internationally and put renewed focus on women's achievements. 2010 Honorees: Jane Bussey, Editorial Director, Latin Trade Elba Hentschel, Regional Executive Director, US Mexico Chamber of Commerce Maggie Martinez,Director 807 Sales, Seaboard Marine Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Congresswoman, US House of Representatives Beth Sobol, President, Sobol Fashion Productions & Miami International Fashion Week  Wed, 31 Dec 1969 17:00:00 -0700New Competition Deadlineshttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/25/New_Competition_Deadlines.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/25/New_Competition_Deadlines.htmlDeadlines are extended for all competitions.  Please click on appropriate link for details.Wed, 31 Dec 1969 17:00:00 -0700MIFW Announces New Education Partnerhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/26/MIFW_Announces_New_Education_Partner.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/26/MIFW_Announces_New_Education_Partner.htmlMIFW announces new partnership with Istituto Marangoni who will sponsor a summer course for the winner of the Emerging Designer Competition at one of their schools in either Paris, Milan or London.  Click on Emerging Designer Competition for details.Wed, 31 Dec 1969 17:00:00 -0700MIFW wins 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year Awardhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/24/MIFW_wins_2009_Entrepreneur_of_the_Year_Award.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/24/MIFW_wins_2009_Entrepreneur_of_the_Year_Award.htmlMiami International Fashion Week   "2009 Entrepreneur of the Year Award"  for small business presented by the Greater Miami Chamber of CommerceWed, 31 Dec 1969 17:00:00 -0700Beth Sobol honored as 2009 Entrpreneur of the Yearhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/28/Beth_Sobol_honored_as_2009_Entrpreneur_of_the_Year.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/28/Beth_Sobol_honored_as_2009_Entrpreneur_of_the_Year.htmlBeth Sobol and Miami International Fashion WeekTM  "2009 Entrepreneur of the Year Award" presented by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce November 19, 2009Wed, 31 Dec 1969 17:00:00 -0700MIFW Opens 2010 Student Filmmaker's Competitionhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/23/MIFW_Opens_2010_Student_Filmmaker_s_Competition.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/23/MIFW_Opens_2010_Student_Filmmaker_s_Competition.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Designer_Competition/Film_Student_Competition.html  Sun, 08 Feb 2009 00:00:00 -0700MIFW Opens 2010 Student Fashion Photography Competitionhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/22/MIFW_Opens_2010_Student_Fashion_Photography_Competition.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/22/MIFW_Opens_2010_Student_Fashion_Photography_Competition.html Click on link for details..... http://www.miamifashionweek.com/Designer_Competition/Fashion_Photography_Competition.html  Wed, 31 Dec 1969 17:00:00 -0700MIFW Opens 2010 Student & Emerging Designer Competitionshttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/20/MIFW_Opens_2010_Student_Emerging_Designer_Competitions.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/20/MIFW_Opens_2010_Student_Emerging_Designer_Competitions.html  Click on links for details...   http://www.miamifashionweek.com/Designer_Competition/Fashion_Student_Competition.html   http://www.miamifashionweek.com/Designer_Competition/Fashion_Student_Competition.htmlWed, 31 Dec 1969 17:00:00 -0700MIFW Opens 2010 Student Graphic Artist Competitionhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/21/MIFW_Opens_2010_Student_Graphic_Artist_Competition.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/21/MIFW_Opens_2010_Student_Graphic_Artist_Competition.html  Click on link for details... http://www.miamifashionweek.com/Designer_Competition/Graphic_Artist_Student_Competition.htmlWed, 31 Dec 1969 17:00:00 -07002010 Dates Announced!http://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/19/2010_Dates_Announced_.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/19/2010_Dates_Announced_.htmlMFW announces 12th annual event dates!   March 18 - 21, 2010Wed, 31 Dec 1969 17:00:00 -0700Miami Moda & Music Award Winners Announcedhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/18/Miami_Moda_Music_Award_Winners_Announced.htmlhttp://www.miamifashionweek.com/Update/18/Miami_Moda_Music_Award_Winners_Announced.html2009 Miami Moda & Music Award Winners Designer of the Year - Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Spain Celebrity Style in Music - Albita Designer Choice Award - Furne One for Amato Couture, Dubai Excellence in Eveningwear Award - Franco Montoro, Venezuela Pret-A-Porter Style Award - Damaris Rubio, Dominican Republic Men's Style Award - Munib Nawaz, Pakistan Tiffany Jewelry Design Award - Amaloa Benvecchio / Amaloa Art to Wear Creative Accessories Design Award - Laura Pimentel & Aleksandar Kirilov for LaLucca Bags Top Model Award - Taylor K.
