About the CIFD
The Council of International Fashion Designers, Inc. is a not-for-profit trade association whose membership consists of emerging and established international fashion, jewelry and accessories designers, fashion and merchandising students, fashion press, stylists, make-up artists, fashion retailers and related industry professionals who have been working/studying in their fields for a minimum of 2 years.
Founded in 1999, the CIFD was created to promote the Latin American designers as international rather than folkloric and continues to advance the status of all international designers entering in the US through cultural exchange, raising artistic and professional standards, promoting ethical practices within the industry and promoting fashion design as an international and creative form of art.
Membership
The Council of International Fashion Designers, Inc. members consist of emerging and established fashion industry professionals and students with a minimum of 2 years working or studying within the field. Membership in the CIFD is open to new applicants that are reviewed under the terms of membership qualifications as noted above. Annual cost of joining the council is $250.00 and benefits include: 30% discounted fees on invitations to business related seminars and networking opportunities with a variety of industry professionals, 10% discounted legal fees on industry related issues with Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg P.A., 10% discounted fees for World Trade Center Miami buyer and match making assistance, 20% discount on tickets to the Miami Fashion Week shows and
Business and Educational Seminars
CIFD works to support educational and promotional efforts for the fashion community and to streamline and inform its members of the ever changing and fast paced international world of fashion, legal requirements, networking and business opportunities within the industry.
The CIFD with its business alliances are committed to nurturing the development of the emerging designers and young industry professionals through educational initiatives and in providing support and resources for them to flourish in the US market. The CIFD promotes a variety of professional business and educational seminars covering topics that include retail and fashion trends, global initiatives in the garment industry, international apparel law, duties and drawbacks, establishing a US corporation, opening a merchants account and credit cards, importing, distribution, licensing, brand marketing, international market and buyer relations, international property rights, public relations, working with showrooms and stores and understanding the business of fashion in the US market. By partnering with a select group of professional organizations, the CIFD is able to inform its members of upcoming seminars of interest in various parts of the including Miami, NYC, Las Vegas and Los Angeles . The CIFD hosts two educational seminars during Miami Fashion Week plus a variety of networking opportunities in
Miami while promoting our associates and partners seminars throughout the year.
CIFD – Miami Moda & Music Awards
In addition to co-producing Miami Fashion Week as the platform for introducing young designers to the US market and international press, each year the CIFD hosts the Miami Moda & Music Awards recognizing the designer’s talents through the awards presentations. The shows official accounting firm of Hoffman, Levy, Bengio & Co. tallies the judges votes for presentation of the awards and the winning designers are recognized on stage, in press releases and on the events official web site throughout the year.
